General English Courses

Our English course will help you develop your knowledge of the language and your ability to use it for a variety of purposes. Your grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation should improve together with your four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing, all in a setting that will broaden your knowledge of the British culture.
 
Our English Courses consist of the following levels:
- Beginner
- Elementary
- Intermediate
- Upper-Intermediate
- Advanced
- Proficient
 
 
Beginner
This level is aimed at students who have little or no knowledge of the English language. On completion of all the teaching units students will:
- Gain Basic English conversational skills.
- Gain a strong grasp of word formations and basic sentence formation.
- Students will be able to identify and use numbers in context of time, dates, money etc.
- An ability to read a simple paragraph unaided using phonetical skills.
- Basic grammar, ability to identify adjectives, nouns, pronouns and each of the tenses.
- Wide range of vocabulary.
- At the end of the course, the learner should be able to communicate in simple but correct English
 
 
Elementary (KET)
KET (Key English Test) is the easiest of the Cambridge exams, the test has three sections: reading, writing, listening and speaking
This level is aimed at students who are familiar with Basic English, basic sentence formation and with very basic conversational skills.
- Student will gain a strong grasp of conversational English.
- They will have a wide vocabulary range.
- The ability to compose a simple piece of written text. (Email, letter...etc)
- Understand the basics of English grammar.
- The student will be a confident reader using phonetical sounds.
  
 
Intermediate (PET)
PET (Preliminary English Test) means that you have enough English to survive in an English speaking country for a longer period, for example as a student. Only when you have the FCE can you really say "I speak English". This exam is in 4 parts: reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Students at this level should achieve a good level of spoken and written English.
- An ability to recognise the different tenses.
- Wide range of vocabulary.
- Create a good standard written text.
- Ability to identify different requests and answer accurately.
- To discuss a topic and express opinion.
- They will learn the appropriate language to be used for the different situations that they encounter
  
 
Upper-Intermediate (FCE)
FCE (First Certificate in English) is the most important of the Cambridge exams, the test has five sections: reading, writing, use of English, listening and speaking. Its possession proves one's adequacy in the English language, and its successful completion means that one is able to interact socially efficiently.
Students should be able to hold a discussion in English without any assistance.
- Students should be able to understand directions when spoken to.
- A good grasp of grammatical techniques is expected.
- Ability to recognize both spelling and grammatical errors.
- Wide vocabulary range.
- Ability to compose a written text using skills gained throughout each session. 
 
Advanced (CAE
CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) is taken by more than 60,000 people each year in more than 60 countries, you can communicate with confidence in English for work or study purposes, the test has five sections: reading, writing, English in use, listening and speaking.
Students at this level will improve dramatically in reading, writing and speaking English.
- The ability to pronounce words clearly and accurately.
- Students will compose original arguments that evaluate, analyse, and synthesise primary and secondary texts  (Including visual texts).
- Students will examine and evaluate in-text documentation.
- Understand the fundamentals of literary analysis.
- Develop a respect for the richness and diversity of language usage that is apparent across cultures, ethnic groups, geographical regions, and social situations.
 
 
Proficient (CPE)
CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) is the highest Cambridge certification level and indicates full English proficiency in any academic or   professional situation.
- CPE is ideal for those who want to work or study abroad, or to develop a career which requires language skills (e.g. business, medicine, engineering and TESOL etc). The CPE certificate is recognised by many universities and employers throughout the world.
 
We adapt our courses according to our students’ needs, and these vary according to the composition of the class (and the time of year). Our lower level classes at the moment tend to need a substantial element of Everyday English, while many of those at the Upper-Intermediate level are preparing for the IELTS exam.
 
 
Academic English and Study skills
The key objective of this course is to improve students' academic English writing and their use of English for seminars, lectures, and presentations.
 
 
Academic English Writing Element
The course is a practical one and covers key aspects of academic English writing. On the course students will:
- Study the different approaches to writing: argumentative, expository, etc.
- Focus on the micro-skills of writing: effective introductions & conclusions, communicating ideas clearly, using details to support ideas, and learning more complex sentence structures.
- Develop formal academic style and understand different genres of writing.
- Review common grammar mistakes and build on useful vocabulary.
- Receive guidance for assignments set by the university.
 
 
Study Skills Element
Key aspects of academic study skills for university are covered. On the course students will:
- Build confidence for leading and participating in seminars
- Review language for expressing ideas clearly and giving balanced opinions
- Learn how to identify key ideas in lectures
- Learn effective note-taking strategies
- Develop awareness of word/sentence stress and connected speech
- Study presentation techniques and how to deal with Q&As
 
 
IELTS Preparation
- This course prepares learners for IELTS, an exam which acts as a gateway to entering British universities.
- Our course focuses on providing learners with the academic skills they need to succeed. These skills relate to listening, reading, writing, and speaking.
 
 
TOEFL Preparation
- We offer a TOEFL test-preparation program that helps you to bridge the gap between general English language knowledge and recognized acceptance of your abilities by potential post-secondary schools (colleges and universities) and employers.
- Many students learning English know that strong English skills alone are not enough to guarantee success TOEFL™. To succeed on this test, students need specialised skills and strategies based on the test itself.
- The course is designed specifically for non-native speakers of English and offers you a comfortable yet challenging study environment. It focuses on learning test-taking skills and strategies that you need to score well on the TOEFL exam. The test preparation course is specifically targeted to each area of the TOEFL.
  
 
Business English (BEC and BULATS)
- BEC (Business English Certificates) are internationally recognised qualifications that show your skills for using English in the workplace. BEC is an ideal English language exam if you are preparing for a career in business. There are three different levels of BEC: BEC Preliminary, BEC Vantage and BEC Higher.
- BULATS (Business Language Testing Service) is a language assessment service specifically for the use of companies and organisations which need a reliable way of assessing the language ability of groups of employees or trainees.
 
 
Legal English Course (ILEC)
ILEC (International Legal English Certificate) is a Cambridge ESOL examination, developed in co-operation with TransLegal - Europe’s leading firm of lawyer-linguists. The exam is a high-level legal-oriented language qualification for lawyers and law students set at levels B2 to C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
- Learn to converse with lawyers and read legal contracts in English. Our Legal English course is intended for lawyers and those interested in international business.
- This class teaches legal vocabulary and structures with additional work on public speaking, writing, and pronunciation.
- Our trainers have legal experience and hold a degree in Law. In addition, our courses can offer first hand experience through arranging trips to law courts. We use materials which can help the trainee cover the key areas for gaining competence in speaking English in this are of speciality.
 
 
Young Learners' English (YLE)
YLE (Cambridge Young Learners' English Tests): English exams for children aged 7 to 12.This testis a reliable and consistent measure of how well your child is doing in the skills of listening, speaking and reading and writing. Tests are designed to make learning fun and children are encouraged by working towards certificates and earning the 'shields' that record their progress.
- The tests consist of three key levels of assessment:
      Movers   : A typical candidate is aged eight to eleven
       Starters : For children from the age of seven
       Flyers     : A typical candidate is aged nine to twelve
 
The tests:-
- are designed to be interesting and enjoyable
- focus on simple, relevant and meaningful language use
- encourage effective teaching and learning
- provide every student with a reward for his or her efforts as there are no fail grades
- test all four language skills - listening, speaking, writing and reading
- create a positive attitude to testing represent a first step on the Cambridge ladder of achievement in English language learning.
 
 
Teachers (TKT)
TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test): This exam is aimed at teaching English to speakers of other languages, aka TESOL "Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages", it is a professional organization based in the United States for people working in this field.  
- The course is aimed at teachers preparing to take the Cambridge ESOL TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test).
- The course is also suitable for teachers returning to teaching after a break and wishing to brush up on their knowledge.
- The course and exam are suitable for native and non-native speakers.
- The course aims to assist teachers in building up a portfolio of work, focussing on all content areas relevant to the test.
- Provides a wide range of resources, such as input, exam practice, practical tasks and assignments which aim to fully prepare teachers for exam success.
- The TKT course is designed around the three modules of the exam, each module is divided into a series of topics:
1- Language and background to language learning
2- Lesson planning and use of resources for language teaching
3- Managing the teaching/learning process
